Pet Peeves

This isn't stamping or knitting related..............just some thoughts. I have quite a few pet peeves and two of them have made me wonder if I am the only one. Here in Maryland, there is a law that requires you to have your vehicles headlights on if you are using your windshield wipers. Therefore, when it is raining, you are required to have them on. I am amazed at all the people who don't comply. Especially when it is foggy too! I don't know what year this became law, but it has been a while. Now I know, I don't always obey the speed limit, but do for the most part. I also drive with my seat belt on, which is another law. The other thing that bothered me today was magazines! No, not the magazine itself, but all those pesky paper inserts. I HATE them!!!! I cannot flip through a magazine with them in there. When I a new magazine I go through and rip all of them out! (and I do put them in the recycle bin) Does this bother anyone else???

oh, you are not the only one! I lived in Connecticut up until 19 years ago and it was a law there. When I moved to PA it drove me nuts that people did not use their headlights in rain/fog. Recently they passed a law here, too, and like you I am amazed at how many people ignore it. Geez, it is common sense, shouldn't even need a law, YKWIM.

I do the same thing with magazines - the first thing I do is go through the magazine and rip out all that junk. If it is a magazine I will keep, I also rip out all the pages with ads on both sides and the ugly stuff. Yeah, I know, that's extreme. Yeah, I know there isn't much left in some magazines. BUT now I can really ENJOY all the good stuff in my new magazine. And feel less guilty about hoarding my old magazines.

Lol! YOu had me laughing with the magazine inserts...I HATE that too! There's actually a term for it, one of those new words they make up, it's called "deboning". Cracks me up! ANd now you've got me wondering about the lights law with the wipers, never heard of that, guess I just turn them on instinctively...I better check!

The magazine thing is definitely annoying. I too rip them all out before I even start reading. It's the next best thing to being spammed. As far as the headlights - well, I guess I just don't understand that one. Granted, my oldest car is only 4 years old, but all of our headlights are automatic. All the cars have daytime running lights, and all of our headlights come on by themselves when it gets dark (or gloomy) enough. I'm pretty sure most cars are like that these days. Also I'm much too busy getting stressed out about the REALLY stupid things people do on the road to even fuss about headlights. Just a few: The 6 cars that go through each red light, nobody ever using their turn signals, people merging onto the freeway going 35, and likewise people slowing down to 35 before exiting the freeway. I could go on all day. I spend a minimum of 2 hours each day commuting in a major metropolitan area, so dorks with driver's licenses really bum me out.

I am so with you on the annoying cards in the magazines. I take them all out right away, saving just one to use as my bookmark. Several years ago at a high school reunion, I found that one of my classmates worked for a major magazine publisher, designing those cards and figuring out how many and what kinds should go in which magazines! I wanted to strangle him, really.
